RESEARCH SUMMARY

Role of Amino-Terminus of PPAR Gamma in Adipogenesis

Our laboratory is currently pursuing three lines of research. The primary focus is understanding the role of peroxisome proliferators-activated receptors (PPARs) and their importance in stimulating lipogenesis. For this research, I have recently received a Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) entitled “The Role of PPAR Gamma Amino-Terminus in the Adipocyte.” The focus is to do mutational analysis of this locus and study the effect in transgenic mice related to the phosphorylation of this amino terminal domain. I am interested in looking at insulin signaling through mutations of the phosphorylation site of this PPAR isoform, which is essential for fat cell development.
